Boise, Idaho-based Kount, a developer of fraud prevention technology for online and catalog merchants, said this morning that it has filed a patent application covering its device fingerprinting and proxy piercing technology, in hopes of getting protection for its technology. The firm said the patent is a second continuation of an existing patent it received in 2008. The firm said the patent application covers both its device fingerprinting methods, and a its "Proxy Piercer" geo location tool, which is used to determine the actual location of computers behind anonymous web proxy servers.
